What was the Task?
For this project, we were supposed to create a model of a parametric bench to go in the hallway outside of our classroom. In order to do this, we first needed to know what a parametric bench is. I won't bore you with the details, but essentially what it is, is a bench made out of many smaller parts. Throughout my research I found a very good picture that represents what we were trying to create.(picture to the right) As you can see, the concept behind it is that a lot of smaller, individual pieces put together to create a bench. This bench also helped me model my project.
Inventor
To create my parametric bench, I used Inventor to draw my model. Below are pictures that show the stages of the process I took to complete my project. The first picture is of my first idea of what I wanted for my bench. I kept a very similar design for the end product. What the second picture shows is the final design of the part that would make up the bench. And the third picture shows the completed assembly of my parametric bench.
3D Printing/Final Product
Below are pictures of the 3D printing process and the final parametric bench 3D model. On the far left you can see the MakerBot 3D printer printing off my bench. The other 3 pictures are of the final product created in the 3D printer.
What did I learn? |
During this project I learned about what a parametric model is. While I was researching what parametric models are, I thought it was really cool the way the parametric things looked. I believe parametric modeling is going to be they way a lot of things are going to be modeled in the future, so its really cool to have learned what it is now and how I could possibly use it in the future.
