About Illustrator
In this project Mrs. Proctor introduced us to Illustrator. Illustrator is a program that you can create 2D drawings and turn them into 3 dimensional objects, or you can also print them of as 2 dimensional objects as well.
About the Project
For this project we used Illustrator to draw outlines for a key chain that we later printed with a laser. I really enjoyed this project because I wanted to test the laser, so I did a fairly complicated design and it matched it perfectly. I thought that it was really cool.
This is a photo of the first day on Illustrator. Originally I wanted to create a Waunakee Warriors key chain, but after I finished this design I thought it looked a little empty. It's because of this reason that I changed my design to something else.
This is a photo of my final design. This is the one I printed out. did this because I really liked the idea of incorporating mountains into my design, so what better way to do that than a Colorado design. I also chose this design because Colorado is my favorite state, so now I will always have a way to see it wherever I go.
Printing/Final Print
This is a photo of the laser in action. I found it very interesting the way that the laser printed. It printed in the pattern of back and forth and the laser would burn the plastic in specific points. And after a while it made exactly what I drew on Illustrator.
This is a photo of what the final key chain looks like. If you scroll up the laser copied what I drew on Illustrator exactly. This product turned out, in my opinion, very cool. The only problem that I had was, after the product was finished their was a little bit of melted plastic in the shape of the bed. It'd frustrating because there is no way to get it off. But other than that, very cool.
Vinyl Decal
This is a photo of the vinyl decal machine. To use it, you draw what you want to print in Illustrator. Then you print it and it makes a decal. It's another very cool machine located in the Waunakee Innovation Center.
Here is a picture of the final result of the deal on my designer notebook. In my opinion, it turned out looking very cool. But it was very intense putting in on because I really didn't want to mess up. But to my surprise, I didn't and I'm very happy about that.
What I Learned
What I learned during this project, is that using the program Illustrator. You can draw 2 dimensional drawings and, using machines turn them into 3 dimensional objects. In my mind this is crazy because this opens up a lot of doors to what we can make using technology. I am very exited to continue learning about this software, and make new and incredible thins in this class.
